COLONIAL SECRETARY'S DEPARTMENT.

Regulations made by His Excellency the Governor relating to the collection and communication of naval and military information and to the spreading of false or prejudicial reports.

CENSORSHIP REGULATIONS, 1917.

In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-clause I (a) of clause III of the Order of Her late Majesty Queen Victoria in Council dated the 26th day of October, 1896, as enacted by the Order of His Majesty in Council dated the 21st day of March, 1916, which Orders were brought into operation in the Colony by Proclamations dated the 5th day of August, 1914, and the 12th day of May, 1916, respectively, His Excellency the Governor is pleased to make the following regulations :-

1.--(1.) No. 18. or measures undertaken for or connected with, or intended for the fortification or defence of any place, or any information of such a nature as is calculated to be or might be directly or indirectly useful to the enemy, and if any person contravenes the provisions of this regulation, or without lawful authority or excuse has in his possession any document containing any such information as aforesaid, he shall be guilty of an offence against these regulations.

(2.) No person shall without lawful authority publish or communicate any information relating to the arrival, departure or presence in the waters of the Colony of any ship, and if any person publishes or communicates any such information in contravention of this provision he shall be guilty of an offence against these regulations.

(3.) For the purposes of this regulation the expression "ships of His Ma- jesty or of any of His Majesty's Allies" includes ships engaged in the service of His Majesty or of any of His Majesty's Allies.

2. (1.) No person shall by word of mouth or in writing or in any news- Prohibition paper, periodical, book, circular, or other printed publication:-
